Privacy and local-first design

Your creative work stays under your control.

DraftAtlas is designed for authors who may be planning private manuscripts, family cookbooks, lore bibles, or unfinished worlds. The default posture is local-first, offline-capable, and explicit about what leaves the computer.

What stays local

  • Core planning works offline.
  • Projects are stored in local project folders.
  • Backups and restore points are created locally.
  • No account is required for the core desktop app.
  • No cloud sync is required.
  • DraftAtlas does not inspect files outside the locations an author explicitly selects or the documented project library.

AI boundaries

  • AI is optional.
  • Ollama can run locally on the user's machine.
  • Cloud AI providers require user configuration.
  • DraftAtlas does not send manuscript content to a cloud AI provider unless the user configures and runs that workflow.
  • AI suggestions are staged for review and do not silently rewrite user work.
  • Before a cloud task runs, DraftAtlas identifies the provider and the project context selected for transmission.

Support reports

Support reports are designed to be redacted by default. They can include app version, platform, diagnostic counts, selected health summaries, and recent logs, but do not include manuscript text, notes, images, API keys, AI prompts, or full project folders unless the user explicitly adds that content.

Cloud providers

Optional cloud AI providers use configuration supplied by the user. If a user chooses a cloud provider, that provider's terms and privacy policy become part of their decision. DraftAtlas does not control a provider's retention or training practices, so authors should review those terms before sending private work.

Imported files

DraftAtlas processes files an author deliberately selects. It does not verify copyright ownership, monitor a manuscript for suspected infringement, or bypass DRM and other access controls. Authors remain responsible for permission, attribution, quotation, and sharing decisions.

No silent control transfer

DraftAtlas does not silently delete, upload, rewrite, or relink user work. The author remains the decision maker.
